Here is the artist statement for my Welcome to the ABC photograph series:
The "Welcome to the ABC" series of photographs starts with an idea. ABC in Australia stands for Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The novel "Welcome to the NHK" by Tatsuhiko Takimoto is about a Japanese hikikomori fighting an imaginary conspiracy, based around the Japanese TV network NHK. In that novel, the main character Satou strives to fight his personal NHK. In a way, the ABC in Australia is an NHK of its own, beaming in socially acceptable Australian ideology into the living room of Australian homes. But what is acceptable in Australian society? Teenagers all over the country have messy rooms just like mine. But when does a messy room become more than a mistake of youth, growing into a hikikomori psychosis?
The line drawn is actually very thin, and varies from person to person. This conceptual photography series explores the mess and the grime of an Australian male youth's room, my own, in an attempt to make sense of the pop-culture laden chaos my mental state lies in as I live in all this filth. It is outsider art - I have never had photography classes before taking this series of photographs and do not intend to until the series is done. With raw honesty these images are taken, commemorating my neglect of my living space.

This is my series of Outsider Art photographs, which will be ongoing. You can buy prints if you want, but you don't have to. It would just make me feel glad somebody paid for my early works.
